Nancy J. Batchelder

Nancy J. Batchelder, 90 of Tipton passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2024 in Kokomo.  Nancy was born in Haverhill, Massachusetts on June 7, 1933 to her parents Martin H. & Evelyn (Peters) Cole.  She married Arthur Batchelder on July 25, 1953 and he preceded her in death on January 25, 1986.  Nancy had previously lived in Merrimac, Massachusetts, Sebring, Florida and Mason, Ohio and in Tipton since 1995. 

She was a graduate of Haverhill High School in the Class of 1951.  Nancy had worked as an electrical tester for both AT&T and Western Electric.  She was an avid walker and was always seen walking around Tipton with her stand-up walker.  She worked wonders with cross stitch making many gifts for her family and friends.  Nancy always enjoyed traveling and made an exciting trip to Europe but by far her favorite place to visit was Alaska.  She was also a voracious reader and would routinely devour at least 100 mystery novels each year. 

Survivors include her two children, Lyn Diamond and husband Harry of Tipton and Thomas Batchelder of Plaistow, New Hampshire; three grandchildren, Katherine Diamond, Benjamin Diamond and Brendon Batchelder and wife Tess Batchelder who is expecting Nancy’s first great-granddaughter.  She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Joan Cole of Merrimac, Massachusetts.  Nancy was preceded in death by her three siblings, Martin Cole, William Cole and wife Fern, and Dorothy Cole. 

Funeral services for Nancy will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home in Tipton.  Visitation will be from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.  After the services in Indiana, Nancy will return home to New Hampshire to be buried next to her husband Arthur in Elmwood Cemetery in Bradford, Massachusetts.
