Richard "Richie" Ziegler

February 17, 1960 — July 29, 2025

Tipton

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard ‘Richie’ Ziegler, a man whose life was defined by hard work, consistency, and quiet resilience. Richie believed in showing up, putting in the effort, and handling what needed to be done — without shortcuts.

He was born in Tipton on February 17, 1960 to Richard Francis and Clarianna (Thompson) Ziegler.

Richie worked for decades at Chrysler, where he was known for his reliability and steady presence on the factory floor. He took pride in his work and never shied away from a tough job or long hours. Outside of work, Richie could always be found tending to his animals. Horses, goats, cats — sometimes more, sometimes fewer — he always had something to feed or fence to mend. Taking care of livestock wasn’t a hobby for Richie; it was just what he did, day in and day out. Evenings were spent in the barn or pasture, handling chores with the same no-nonsense approach he brought to everything else in life. He had an instinctive way with animals especially his latest love, Dozer who was by his side until the very end.

He is survived by those who knew and respected him, and by the routines and responsibilities he handled with quiet dedication. His loving family includes his daughter Megan Friend and husband Shawn, Richie’s siblings Lynette Johnson, Melanie Heron and Michele Gates and husband Jamey, and his grandchildren Isabelle, Rowan and Rhys Friend as well as several nieces and nephews.

Richie was preceded in death by his parents, Clarianna and Dick.

Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Tipton. No services are planned.  Young-Nichols Funeral home is honored to assist the Ziegler family in their time of need.

Memorial donations may be made to the Tipton County Humane Society, P.O. Box 237, Tipton, Indiana, 46072.

Rest easy, Richie—you earned it.
