Rita J. Freeman

Rita Joan Freeman, 68 of Kempton died at 11:45 p.m. on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at her residence.  She was born in Elwood on January 30, 1950 to Bobby R. & Joanna L. (Reynolds) Simmons.  On May 27, 1995 Rita married Steven D. Freeman and he survives.

She worked for IMMI in Westfield.  Rita was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Tipton. Rita was also a member of the Women of the Moose and the American Legion Auxiliary in Tipton.  She loved going camping, sewing, crocheting, and horseback riding.

Rita is survived by three children, Glen L. Phifer, Tipton, Hope M. Phifer, Collinwood, Tennessee, and Arlene F. Davis, Martinsville, Indiana; two sisters, Sandra Lashure and Norma Firestone; a brother, Terry Simmons; along with six grandchildren and one great grandchild.  She was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Simmons and a sister, Barbara Smith.

Funeral services for Rita will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 1 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in Scott Cemetery, Scircleville.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. Saturday until time of the service.
