Sandy Jo Richey, 88 of Sharpsville died on Thursday, March 19, 2026 in Kokomo. She was born on October 10, 1937, the daughter of Wayne & Donna Dee (Cottingham) Lorts. In 1959 she married Jim Richey and they enjoyed 66 years of marriage while raising their family.
Sandy was beloved by all who knew her. She put her heart and soul into everything she did including loving her family. Sandy was an active member of the Sharpsville United Methodist Church and an avid Master Gardner.
She loved to go fishing in Minnesota where she was skilled at catching Northern pike. Sandy loved to garden, watch college basketball and cook. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and her special dog, Baxter.
Sandy had a calming, steady influence which those around her appreciated. She was the most positive person you could ever hope to meet. Sandy enjoyed every day; she was always busy and always happy.
Survivors include her husband Jim; son Tim Richey and wife Maigen of Fishers, one daughter, Tracy Dorsett and husband Tony of Mitchell. Sandy’s grandsons are Kane Richey and Jace Dorsett and girlfriend Kloe and an honorary great-grandson, Teddy; one granddaughter, Alix Richey with whom she shared a special bond and her husband Mike. Sandy’s great-granddaughter is due to arrive in July.
She is also survived by her sister, Ricky Moeller and husband Ronnie of Sharpsville; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Thomas, Sandpoint, Idaho and numerous nieces and nephews. Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Dickie Lorts, Terry Lorts and Ted Lorts and his wife Sandy as well as a brother-in-law, Dwaine Richey.
Graveside funeral services for Sandy will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24 at Nevada Cemetery with Rev. Heather Holman presiding and burial to follow. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon Tuesday at Young-Nichols Funeral Home. Online condolences for the Richey family may be left on Sandy’s obituary page at www.young-nichols.com.
