Sonya Sue Smith

Sonya Sue Smith, 92 of Tipton died peacefully Sunday morning at Autumnwood Village with her family by her side. She was born in Tipton County on September 17, 1933 to Garris T. and Madge (Vandevender) Molden. She married Jean Smith and he preceded her in death.

She was a certified nursing aid, attending to many patients in her career at several doctor’s offices. Sue was a member at the Emanuel Lutheran Church and was very active with the vacation bible school and meals on wheels program at the church. Several of her hobbies included playing bingo, shopping, especially at T.J. Maxx, sewing, baking, canning, riding her bike, watching the Pacers and even cleaning! Most importantly and on the top of her activities was being a grandma. Her family meant everything.

Survivors include her children, Kim Newcom and husband Jeff of Tipton, Kelly Dunn and wife LauraBeth of Tipton, step children Denny Smith and wife Jodi, Dave Smith and wife Rita and Debbie Smith. Grandchildren include: Mandi (Erik) Larson, Chad (Erica) Newcom, Craig (Rachel) Newcom, Clint (Mallory) Newcom, Megan (Tim) Chariton, Katy (Chris) Hickman and Emma Dunn (Dillon Sheiss). Sue was blessed with 14 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild coming in December.

She was preceded in death by her siblings: Sally Halford, Steve Molden and Nancy Molden.

A private graveside services will occur at a later date at Normanda Cemetery with Rev. Robb Roloff presiding.
