Betty Van Horn

Betty Van Horn, 91 of Windfall died on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Tipton. She was born on November 1, 1930 in Marion, Indiana to Charles Edward & Grace Anna (Reed) McCorkle. On Valentine’s Day in 1948 she married the love of her life, Clarence William “Bill” VanHorn. The couple enjoyed 45 years of marriage together before Bill’s death on December 30, 1993.

Betty attended Windfall High School and was a member of Windfall Christian Church. Like many wives of her era, she was a homemaker. Betty had a strong love for her family and enjoyed the time they spent together. She definitely had a green thumb and it showed with her flowers. Betty enjoyed growing her many beautiful roses, geraniums, and tomato plants.

Betty is survived by her two children, Julie Quinn and husband Tom of Russiaville, Melanie Jane Hinds and husband Mike of Windfall; siblings, Kathryn Ellis of Ridgon, Indiana, Patricia Ann Wylie and partner Steve of Elwood, and James Allen McCorkle of Windfall.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Scott Quinn and wife Janelle, Todd Quinn, Andrea Sznewajs and husband Matthew; great-grandchildren, Kelsey Holt and husband AJ, Judson Quinn, Makenzie Quinn, Janae Quinn, Sophia Sznewajs, William Sznewajs, and Benjamin Sznewajs; sisters-in-law, Barbara (Hinds) McCorkle and Barbara (Dennis) McCorkle; along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Phyllis Abplanalp, Charles McCorkle, Fred McCorkle, and David McCorkle.

Betty’s funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 6 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Carl Roudebush presiding. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until time of her service on Saturday. Online condolence may be made at the bottom of her obituary page at www.young-nichols.com
