Roy Gene Gipson

January 26, 1945 — November 3, 2022

Roy Gene Gipson, 77, of Elwood, beloved father, husband, brother and friend passed away November 3, 2022 at Elwood Health and Living Facility after an epic eighteen-year battle with cancer.  Gene was born in Moss, Tennessee to the late George and Roxie (Green) Gipson on January 26, 1945 and moved to Indiana as a small child.  He graduated from Tipton High School in 1964.  Gene served his country in the Vietnam War with the 11th Armored Cavalry regiment.  He was an Honorary Blackhorse Trooper, was awarded two Purple Hearts, and served as a drill sergeant upon his return.

Gene retired from Steel Parts Corporation after 30 + years of service where he also served as a union representative for the United Steelworkers Union #3875. He was a member of the Elwood Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 5782 and the American Legion, Tipton Post 46.

Gene was generous, witty, fun and determined. He had an infectious laugh that lit up a room. He loved golfing, NASCAR, drag racing, motorcycles, traveling, camping, and fishing.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents George and Roxie (Green) Gipson, two brothers Ken Gipson and Lawrence Gibson, and his first wife, Linda (Cotton) Speer.

Besides his wife, Satin, Gene leaves behind his daughters Andrea Gipson Burt  (husband Kevin), Michele Gipson Davis (husband Chris) and Jessica Gipson; two brothers, Buddy Gibson (wife Gwen) and Tim Gibson (wife Brenda); two sisters Anna Gipson and Becky Brosnan (husband Joe); five grandchildren Chris Sorg, Elizabeth Sorg, Rachel Burt Mahnke, Mason Lewis and Isaac Gipson; six great-grandchildren and a plethora of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home in Tipton with Rev. Kim Drake presiding.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Tipton with military honors.
