Donnie Ross, 54 of Tipton died Friday, January 13, 2023 at 12:18 a.m. at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville. He was born in Tipton on April 28, 1968 to Donald G. and Vicki (Graham) Ross. On April 20, 1996 Donnie married the love of his life, Tammy Mitchell. They spent over 26 years together.

After graduation from Tipton High School in 1986, Donnie enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country from 1986 until 1990.

Donnie was a firefighter through and through. He volunteered at Cicero Township Fire Department for several years prior to being hired as a full time driver operator. His career escalated him to the top spot in the department, Chief. He held the administrative position for several years, helping guide and shape the department. In his spare time he still focused on the fire service. He was very instrumental in helping train many firefighters in various aspects of the fire service. His love of the service was very evident as he worked at other departments including the Sheridan Fire Department. Donnie was a member of the Honor Guard that has been formed within the county in the past several years.

Donnie was a hard worker outside the fire realm. At various times he held positions with Sam’s Club, Sears, Ramsay Office Supply and Insight. He was an avid Colts fan, always following the team.

The love of family and the focus Donnie had for his grandchildren was very strong. It is certain that his heart was full when he was around them.

Donnie is survived by his wife, Tammy, children Sam Abbott (Sarah Isaac), and Haley Ross, and a brother Matt Ross and spouse Robert. Grandchildren include Ivy, Amaya, Sam “S.J.”, Levi, Paislee and Iris Abbott and Nova Ross.

Funeral services for Donnie will be on Wednesday, January 18 at 2:00 p.m. at Rock Prairie Church in Tipton. Visitation will also be on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial at Fairview Cemetery with military rites by the Tipton American Legion and the U.S. Navy will follow.
