Floyd Ogden

 -

Floyd L. Ogden 77 of Tipton died Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Century Villa Health Care in Greentown.  He was born in Elwood, Indiana on May 12, 1945 to Alva L. and Maxine (Burt) Widener Ogden.

Floyd attended Ash Street Wesleyan Church.  He was known as a hard worker, being employed by the City of Tipton for over 36 years with the street department and could often be found working with the parks department mowing and maintaining the city park area.  His love of the outdoors was evident as he enjoyed traveling around town on his scooter and would routinely visit his mother’s grave at Fairview Cemetery.

Floyd enjoyed a simple life.  Country music was his favorite and he would visit the Atlanta Music Hall to dance and listen to the tunes.  He had a routine of enjoying his morning coffee with a Honey Bun, and eventually ending up at Faye’s Restaurant for a well cooked meal.  Floyd was very particular in keeping his garage in good shape as he spent many hours there tinkering with several projects over the years.

Survivors include a niece Teresa Kemper, nephews Earl and Terry Netherton and many distant relatives and friends he made along his life.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Rosella Keever and a niece Sylvia Lacy.

A graveside service will be conducted on Saturday February 18 at 10:00 A.M. at Fairview Cemetery.  Pastor Logan Westrick will preside.   Visitation will be on Friday, February 17 from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Young –Nichols Funeral Home.

Memorial donations may be made to the City of Tipton, 216 S. Main Street Tipton, Indiana, 46072 for park improvements.

Floyd worked for my dad, Harold B. (Fuzzy) Allen, at the Shell Service Station (where Get Go is now). He was a hard worker. I remember how much my dad respected Floyd and made sure all the other workers respected him too. After Dad retired, I remember when Floyd would see my mother, he would ask, “How’s Fuzzy?” After mother and dad were gone, and I would see Floyd, he would ask if I remembered him. My reply was, “Of course, I do Floyd! You worked for my dad.”

  2. Floyd was known through out this town. He was a very good worker for the city. Always spoke when he saw someone he knew. Now he is with his mom again. Condolences and prayers from the Stacy/ Head family

    1. Will sure miss seeing you riding your scooter around town this summer “Floydie”.
Tell Aunt Mac hi for me. Rest in peace. You deserve it.

  3. When the Goose Bean Garden Club took care of the park beds, a friend and I were in charge of a couple of them. When Floyd was working in the park, he would always come over to remind us not to carry the debris cleaned out of the bed to the trash cans because he would do it and he did. He was always friendly to me and others and always had a quick smile. I am sure I am not the only one who will miss him. RIP Floyd, you have earned it.

  4. Floyd was a great man and when we talked he would always ask me how I was and how Gerald was. Then he would say tell Gerald that he says hi. Remembering always riding his mopd and seeing him at the cementary visiting with his mother. Such a nice man

    1. I’m going to miss Floyd riding his scooter and stopping to talk to us at the Ogden reunion RIH Floyd we miss you already

The most dedicated son any mother could ever want to have. Never missed an opportunity to take of care of her. Likewise, the City of Tipton, parks department could never ask more from the most dedicated worker. He was always kind hearted and spoke kindly to the Shupperd Family members on Mill Street! Fly High and Rest Easy ….Well done faithful servant!

  6. I enjoyed talking to Floyd at the hospital when he would come to eat. He would tell us about his mother in the nursing home. Floyd was a very polite man. RIP Floyd

  7. I knew Floyd as a young kid Even with his disabilities Floyd was a hard working man that was so honest. . He was so dedicated to his mother as she was to him. We used to take him home from Faye’s on occasion if he couldn’t ride his scooter, Only bad weather or scooter in the shop kept him from riding. He could never say thank you enough times.
They can be together now. Phyllis Frawley

It will definitely be strange not seeing Floyd riding around town on his scooter, but I’m sure he’s enjoying seeing his mother again now! RIP Floyd!

    1. Gary & I will be out of town this weekend, but wanted to leave a message. Floyd would always give Gary a call, if he needed help with his moped. Floyd went and bought his new one after talking to Gary. He talked him into it lol. Such a kind man. Now in heaven with his momma.

  9. You can see by all of these comments that Floyd impacted lots of people’s lives. A person with a kind heart and he did his best with the gifts God have him.
He will be remembered by many.

  10. Will miss seeing Floyd…such a well known Tipton resident. I witnessed the love between mother and son and it was an inspiration! Prayers go out for both of them…
