Gene Willard Shadday, 92 of Tipton passed away at home at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 27, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.  Gene was born in Tipton County on November 22, 1929 to Anthony & Anna Marie (VanHorn) Shadday.  On February 25, 1949 he married Verna Ann Marshall and they enjoyed 73 years of marriage.

Gene worked construction most of his life.  He and his brother Dick owned Shadday Construction Company.  Later he transitioned to building church facilities.  He served in the Indiana National Guard and was a member of the Tipton Elks.  Gene was a member of the West Street Christian Church where he had served in many different capacities.  He enjoyed wood working, gardening, painting and playing tennis.  Above all, Gene was known as a family man and enjoyed the time spent with family.

Survivors besides his wife Verna Ann included his son Jerry and wife Janet, Tipton; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.  He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marcia Kay Waid, a brother, Dick Shadday and a sister, Joyce Shadday.

Gene’s funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 29, at the West Street Christian Church with Rev. Ashley Sherard presiding.  Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Tipton.  Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon until the time of the service, also at the church.

Young-Nichols Funeral Home is assisting the Shadday family with Gene’s services.

Memorial contributions may be made to the West Street Christian Church, 132 N. West Street, Tipton, Indiana, 46072.
