James B. “Jim” Green, 69 of Tipton, died on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at the VA Northern Indiana Health Care in Marion.  He was born on August 31, 1949 in Tipton to Bethel & Joann (Gipson) Green.

Jim was a graduate of Tipton High School in the Class of 1968.  He was then drafted into the US Army and fought in the Vietnam War.  After his service in the Army he worked in several jobs including with the US Postal Service and Indiana OSHA.  His last job was at Delco Electronics in Kokomo.  Jim had also attended Indiana University – Bloomington.

Jim loved carpentry and was always available to help a friend with home repairs.  He loved having his own garden and enjoyed his home-grown produce.

Survivors include two daughters, Juli Troyer and husband Randy and Jennifer Green, all of Peru; his long-time companion, Vickie Turley of Kokomo; six siblings, Willodean Crane, Tigard, Oregon, Billy Green and wife Sherrill, Tipton, Judy Schmitz, Western Springs, Illinois, Roy Green, Tipton, Sandra Green-Smith and husband Sky, Hendersonville, North Carolina and Jo Ellen Scott; Tipton.

Jim is also survived by seven grandchildren, Tyler Rose, Joshua Rose, Julia Davis, Ronson Parker, Annette Parker, Devon Green and Nevaeh Green.  He was preceded in death by one brother, Lewis Edward Green.

In keeping with Jim’s wishes he will be cremated and then buried with his parents in Fairview Cemetery, Tipton.  A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 18 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery with military honors presented by the U.S. Army and the Tipton American Legion.  Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Saturday.

    My condolences to the entire Green Family. Jim was young to pass but when you are a Veteran you have seen the worst of life along with the best. My father passed along his condolences too. Jim, “Jimmy,” was a great guy to know and grow up with.

  6. Very sorry to hear about Jimmy passing. My condolences to all the family and friends. I will always remember Jimmy as the happy go lucky fun loving young man that I knew. His wit, charm, daring and sense of humor will be missed. Jimmy find your peace and God rest your soul.
