James F. “Jim” Dane

James F. "Jim" Dane

 -

James F. “Jim” Dane, 69 of Tipton died on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at his home.  Jim was born on May 2, 1950, in Elwood, to Henry & Bettie (Horton) Dane.  He married his high school sweetheart Elizabeth Ann Durr on August 22, 1970; she survives.

Jim worked for many years as the warehouse manager at Quaker Oats in Tipton and then at Chrysler Corporation in Kokomo.  He also worked briefly at FMC, Stokely Van Camp, Steel Parts, and Ray Brothers & Noble Canning. Jim was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Elks, and Kiwanis.  He never met a stranger and valued every person on the merit of their character and not their station in life.  Jim enjoyed playing golf, traveling, and rooting on his beloved Chicago Bears.  His most favorite activity, however, was spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Ann and daughters Heather (Thomas) Magee of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida; Jennifer (Wes) McCullough of Freeland, Michigan; and Kristin Ewing of Zionsville; and grandchildren Joshua Magee, Samuel Magee, Aaron Magee, Henry McCullough, Hazel McCullough, and Asher Ewing.

A funeral Mass for Jim will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 21, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Fr. Dennis Goth presiding. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery in Tipton. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20, at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with a Rosary Service starting at 4:00 pm. Memorial donations in honor of Jim may be made to the building fund at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 335 Mill Street, Tipton, Indiana, 46072 or the Tipton Kiwanis, c/o Steve Peters, 1604 Bethel Avenue, Tipton, Indiana, 46072.

  2. Dear Ann and Family, especially Jennifer, Wes, Henry and Hazel, sorry to hear of your loss and God’s gain – I have many fond memories of Jim going around the corner to go home on his cycle – he took Paula for a ride once – (there by where the Floor Store is now) –then after Wes and Jennifer were together the memories added – so glad to have been included in your celebrations @ Rose Anne and Ted’s and your home – things have changed in the matter of a wink of an eye – God has that power – believe me I know and time does not change things – I know that Jim and Paul played golf some – so they are together know – doubt if playing golf – Ann, if want to talk some time I don;t have answers to questions but I certainly would be glad to chit-chat. Ann, God knows best and some day we will know why we were left alone. Betsy North
