Lora A. Gibson, 46 of Kempton died on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at I.U. Health Methodist, Indianapolis as the result of an auto accident. She was born May 13, 1968 in Tipton to Russell E. “Rut” & Linda L. (Henry) Sottong. She married Jim Gibson on June 28, 2014 and he survives.

Lora was a nurse at Community Howard Regional Hospital in Kokomo. She was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church and the church’s choir. Lora was the former chairman of the Human Care Committee and was instrumental in setting up the food pantry at the church. Lora graduated from Tipton High School in 1986, attended Purdue University and graduated from Sinclair College in Ohio with a nursing degree in 1990. She assisted the Girls Barrel Racing Association, Kantering Kids 4-H Club, and Blue Ribbon Chasers. Lora was formerly the Tipton High School Band nurse and the nurse in the middle and elementary school. She was heavily involved in her children’s activities and very handy.

She is survived by her husband Jim; mother, Linda Sottong, Kempton; six children, Kristyn, Morgan, and Molly Bitner; Daniel Gibson and special friend Lexci Brown, Kokomo, Levi Gibson, Kokomo, Jonah Gibson, Kokomo; two brothers, Randy Sottong and wife Bonnie, Kempton, David Sottong, Kempton; and a sister, Amy Royal and husband Chris, Kempton; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Russell E. “Rut” Sottong.

Lora’s funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 10, 2014 at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, Tipton with Rev. Robb Roloff presiding with burial following at Normanda Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. Sunday and from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Monday, all at the church. Young-Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

A college fund has been set at Encompass Credit Union, 201 N Main St, Tipton, IN 46072 for her children’s education.
