Osrow Prince

Osrow Prince

 -

A hometown man of the world.

Osrow Prince, a lifetime resident of Windfall died on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at Autumnwood Village in Tipton.  He was born in Cabell, Kentucky on September 21, 1935 to Ed & Zona (Snow) Prince, making him 85 years old at the time of his passing.

His family moved to the Windfall community while he was a young boy and he lived there until health forced him to move to Tipton for the last few years.  To quote from an article in the July 25, 2001 edition of the Tipton Tribune by Gene F. Conrad, “He is the consummate world traveler – not bad for a guy who considers Windfall and Tipton County the absolute greatest place to be.  If there’s a more renowned hometown fellow that Osrow Prince, he either hasn’t been born or else he’s in permanent hiding.”

Osrow was a 1954 graduate of Windfall High School who served in the U.S. Army from 1957-59; coached Windfall Little League baseball for over 20 years; retired from Fisher Body in Marion after 30-plus years, and was an active member of the Windfall Christian Church since 1952.  He was member of the Windfall Lions Club for over 40 years and continued with that when it merged with the Greentown Lions Club.  He was also a great supporter of Windfall and Tri-Central High School sports.  For over 45 years he ran the game clock and kept score for both schools.  He was a supporter of the Backpack Blessings ministry.

Osrow is survived by his sister Pam (Flood) Disney along with numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Billy & Dewey Prince, Kenneth, Karen, Loral and Thomas Duckworth and David Flood.

A graveside service for Osrow will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 2 at Brookside Cemetery with Rev. Carl Roudebush presiding.  Burial will follow with military honors presided by the U.S. Army and the Tipton American Legion.  Young-Nichols Funeral Home is assisting the Prince family with arrangements.

Memorial contributions in Osrow’s memory may be made to the Windfall Christian Church, 211 N. Independence Street, Windfall, Indiana, 46076.

  1. Osrow was a true gentleman. I had the pleasure of getting to know him at Autumnwood Village as my mother is also a resident there. He was always in a good mood and took the time to say Hello every time I was out there and ran into him. I will miss him.

  2. Ozzie was a great neighbor and a friend to all the kids of Windfall during my youth. He coached us and followed our achievements for many years. He recently attended Tri-Centrals 50 year inaugural celebration. Wonderful friend. Very sad to hear of his passing.

I’m definitely going to miss this man! He was a great story teller and I loved listening to him explain Windfall from his first memories of that small town. He was one of my favorite patrons to serve at Anita and Jerry’s Point Pizza. Filet of fish sandwich with just a bit of tartar sauce. I’ll never forget! The last time I saw Osrow he was at the Dr.s office, I asked him how it was at the new place and he said it was nice. He still was able to go places (even the casino) on the bus. He always found the light to any situation. My prayers are with his family, fly high pal.

  6. What a wonderful Christian man and devoted to the youth of windfall and tri central he loved to tell stories of where he had been and often people he had worked with. knowing you are with Jesus Sue(king)kassel

R.I.P Oz. I will always remember and appreciate you coming to all of my graduations from high school to college and all 3 times at the police academy. Your knowledge of local history was second to none. You will be missed.

Osrow was my friend, my teammate, and life-long link to Windfall. I have known him since the sixth grade. He became the unofficial historian of the Windfall graduating class of 1954. The Readers’ Digest used to publish articles titled “The Most Unforgettable Character I Ever Met.” Osrow would have been a perfect subject for such an article. He will be missed by many, but especially by the members of the Windfall High School class of 1954.

Osrow shared his table at Main Moon with me several times after I moved to Tipton 16 years ago. I enjoyed his tales of visiting the world for Lions Club Conventions. He made many private gifts of charity for the benefit of his neighbors and especially their children. A unique personality and memorable man. May the Perpetual Light shine upon him, and may he rest in peace.

Osrow will definitely be missed. He was a staple at all my childhood memories. My daughters enjoyed writing him during COVID last year. What a special man he was and he will definitely be missed but his memories will live on with us. Love you Zero!!

  11. I stopped in to visit with Osrow right before the pandemic hit and shut everything down. He was so proud of his new living quarters and took time to show me around. I got to see in his closet where all of his Lions Club’s shirts were hanging, all pressed and looking great. I got to hear the story of all of those shirts and the different places he had acquired them. He opened his kitchen cabinets where everything was absolutely perfect. Labels all facing forward, including about 25 cans of spam he called Windfall ribeye. I can remember him running by my house when I was a youngster. He would always stop in front of my house, look at his watch, and when the time was right, take off running. He would return about three hours later. A true treasure for the town of Windfall and surrounding area. God speed Mr. Osrow. And thank you for your service to our country…You will be greatly missed.

My memories of Oz starts back on our fan buses,he always made sure everyone had the money to eat when the bus stopped after the game, later in life,I moved away from Windfall, whenever there visiting,if Oz saw my car he came in to say hello, any questions I had about people and there whereabouts,he always knew, the world needs more Osrow Prince’s

I had the distinct honor and pleasure of sitting by “Ozzie” keeping books for basketball for many many years! We would talk about the changes to Windfall and the people who had come and gone, but mostly about sports! The one thing that I will always remember him for was his Christian walk. He would quietly go about helping those who needed it dearly and meeting people’s needs with no fanfare or recognition. He was Jesus’ Hands and Feet to Windfall, Tri-Central, and to the world. I can only imagine the people who were waiting for him in heaven and said thank you to him for his giving to the Lord. I know God said WELL DONE to this faithful servant! Ozzie you were my friend and you were one of a kind. God bless your family!
