Rachel Ann Rush, 86 of Windfall died on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at her residence. She was born in Miami County, Indiana on November 3, 1932 to William Fred & Martha C. (Rakestraw) Johnson. Rachel married Lowell W. Rush on September 30, 1955. He preceded her in death on April 13, 2016.

Rachel graduated from Windfall High School in 1951. After high school, she continued her education and graduated from Indiana Business College. Rachel was a homemaker, a mother, a grandmother, and a great-grandmother. She was a member of Windfall Christian Church where she was an organist and very active in the music ministry. She loved to sing.

Rachel was a former member of Handy Hands Womens Circle and the Seed City Stompers Square Dance Club. Rachel worked as a volunteer at Miller’s Merry Manor playing the piano for the residents monthly. She loved baseball and was an avid Indianapolis Indians and Cincinnati Reds fan. Rachel loved reading and working jigsaw puzzles. She was an accomplished organist, playing for several of the local funeral homes.

She is survived by her four children, Arlene Buell and husband Ronald, Kokomo, Carolann Shadday and husband Phil, Tipton, Elaine Phelps and Roland Whisler, Tipton and Brian Rush and wife DeeDee, Windfall; four grandchildren, Andy Phelps and Julie Ross, Austin Tan and husband Jeff, Jerret Shadday and wife Kali and Jennifer Rayle and husband James. Rachel also has a brother, Robert William Johnson; a sister-in-law, Sarah May Rush; eight great-grandchildren, Oliver Tan, Kenzie and Gavin Shadday, Cole and Carter Rayle, Madi, Rachel and Carly Ripberger.

Rachel’s funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 19 at the Windfall Christian Church with Rev. Carl Roudebush presiding. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Windfall. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Young-Nichols Funeral Home and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Windfall Christian Church, 211 N. Independence Street, Windfall, Indiana, 46076.
