Richard A. Parrish, 86 of Anderson died on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 in Anderson. He had previously lived in Windfall and Chesterfield, Indiana. Richard was born in Windfall, Indiana on October 28, 1932 to William Ruben & Frances (Ailman) Parrish.  On August 20, 1951 he married Opal J. Keown and she preceded him in death on January 11, 2013.

Richard retired from Guide Lamp in Anderson.  He was a member of Chesterfield First Free Will Baptist Church in Chesterfield.  Richard also was a member of the American Legion, Korean War Veterans, and WBCC Airstream Club.  He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.

Richard is survived by his children, William R Parrish, Indianapolis, Deborah L. Ellingwood (Kirby LeMond), Claypool, Indiana; siblings, Bob Parrish and wife Pat, Don Parrish and wife Shirley, Patty Fisher, Keith Parrish and wife Shirley; a grandson, Justin M. Ellingwood and wife Nicole, Carmel; a great-grandson, Jaylen Leonard and a great-granddaughter, Tylee Ellingwood, both of Carmel; several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by a brother William Parrish.

Richard’s funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 4 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home, Tipton with Chaplin Brenda Walls presiding.  Burial with military rites will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Tipton. Visitation will also be Sunday from Noon until the time of the service.

Memorial donations made be made to Indy Honor Flight, PO Box 10, Plainfield, Indiana, 46168.

    On behalf of Indy Honor Flight, please accept our sincere sympathy on the loss of Mr. Parrish. He was a great asset to our north side dinners each month and he will truly be missed! Rest in Peace Mr. Parrish.

  4. Richard was a treat to know, and he brightened many lives along his path. I only just met him last year, but we shared a lot which includes the loss of a spouse. My sincerest thoughts and prayers are with each of his family members and close friends during this time. We know Richard is with the Lord and his beloved Opal.and free from the ugliness of cancer. Praises, for the newest angel received.

  5. Dick graduated with the High School class of 1950. He designed the cover page for the class annual, and served as past toast master of the Windfall High School annual alumni. Surviving class members are, Helen (Legg) Heath, Rebecca (Rife) ……., and Max L. Heflin. Dick will be missed.

  6. Dick was our neighbor for 10 years and a friend ever since. He and Opal were like grandparents to our kids, and we really miss having them next door. We will keep your family in our prayers during this difficult time.
