Yolonda Kaye Kemper

 -

Yolonda Kaye Kemper, 66, Windfall, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2023 surrounded by loved ones at IU Health Methodist Hospital. She was born July 21, 1956 to Paul Richard and Toneita Mae (Salsbery) Calvin and they survive.  Kaye was a 1974 graduate of Tri-Central High School and a lifelong resident of Tipton County.  On November 9, 1974 she married Kenneth Kemper; he survives.

She loved being a farm wife and homemaker.  She was an amazing cook and would spend hours in the kitchen baking for family, friends or somebody she just met.  Just because.  She operated a catering business for many years and eventually realized her dream and opened a restaurant with her son and loved every minute of it.

After her children were grown, she attended Alexandria School of Scientific Therapeutics and became a massage therapist. She developed a lot of friendships with her Kneady Hands clientele. To help others even further she attended IU School of Nursing and graduated IUK with her nursing degree as an RN and began her career at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. Later she changed to IU Health Tipton Hospital and continued her education attaining her Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree. Most recently Kaye worked as a traveling nurse, which she thoroughly enjoyed.

She attended Windfall Christian Church and was a member of Greentown Order of Eastern Star, the Lebanon Chapter D.S.  P.E.O. and a past member of the Tipton Co Farm Bureau board of directors serving as the county women’s leader and was a spokeswomen for their Farming the Classroom program teaching grade-school children about farming.

She looked forward to her yearly trips to Mackinac Island and trips to Phoenix with her best friend Janet Ellison and she loved going to Gaither concerts with her friends.

She was Aunt Kaye to many but she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren attending their games, concerts, contests, programs or whatever activities they were involved in.

Survivors include her daughter Angela Grimes-Brumley and husband Scott of Windfall, son William Kemper and wife Jessica of Windfall; grandchildren Jesse Grimes, Gracie Grimes, Delaney Brumley and Jaxson Yundt; siblings Mark (Terri) Calvin of Frankfort, Mick (Barb) Calvin of Windfall, Julianne Calvin of Windfall; nephews Coty (Brittany) Calvin, and Vincent (Brittney) Calvin; nieces Amanda (Tyler) Wilson, Amy (Shane) Mendenhall; grand-nieces and nephews Eli, Emma, Nate, Bristol, Charlee, Coty Jr., Myleigh, Hunter, Cal, Monroe, Crew, Riggins, Mackynzie, and Olivia.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents Stephen W and Marjorie Salsbery and Ray and Anita Calvin, an uncle Stephen A. Salsbery and her in-laws Ned and Mary Esther Kemper for who she was caregiver and loved very much.

Kaye’s funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 13 at Windfall Christian Church with Revs. Carl Roudebush and Logan Sparling officiating and burial to follow in Brookside Cemetery, Windfall.  Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday and 10:00-11:00 a.m. Friday, all at the church.  The Order of the Eastern Star will conduct a memorial service at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the church.  Young-Nichols Funeral Home is assisting the Kemper family with Kaye’s arrangements.
