Betty Jo Askren, 92 of Kokomo died Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at Northwood Village in Kokomo. She was born at home in Windfall on December 14, 1930 to Virgil E. and Jewel Agnus Irene (Rogers) Porter. After their third date, Dr. Don Richard Askren proposed and they were married on December 22, 1950. He preceded her in death on May 15, 2013.

Betty Jo worked with Don for many years at his chiropractic practice in Tipton. She was also a hair stylist and owned the Tipton Cosmetology College retiring in 1989. Betty Jo was a member of the Christian Church. She loved being a host for family and friends providing a welcome environment for gatherings. Betty enjoyed gambling at the casinos, taking a risk and living with the outcome, good or bad.

She is survived by a wonderful extended family of nieces and nephews: Windy Bagley and husband Michael of Kokomo, Virginia Boyer and husband Terry of Joshua, Texas, Jo Porter of Aroma, Skeet Porter of Florida, Linda Tubbs and husband Bill of Kokomo, Ronald Hawkins of Frankton, Lisa Clark and husband Andy of Windfall and Buddy Porter of Kokomo. She also has several great nieces and nephews.

Betty Jo was preceded in death by her siblings: Robert Porter, Frank Porter, Sue Hawkins and Mike Porter.

No services are planned. Young-Nichols Funeral Home is honored to assist the Askren family in their time of need.

  1. So sorry to hear about Betty’s passing. What a peach she was!! Lots of fun times at Tipton Cosmetology School. Now she is back with the love of her life, and am sure they are throwing the best party!
    My sympathy to the family!!
