Byllie L. VanHorn, 91 of Tipton passed away at home on Monday, December 13, 2021 surrounded by her family. Byllie was born in Hobbs on July 7, 1930 to Elton Book and Jesse M. (Barnes) Book Hale. She married Jack E. VanHorn on June 13, 1948 and they enjoyed 63 years of marriage before his passing on April 26, 2012.

Byllie was a homemaker, wife, and mother to three girls. She was a graduate of Tipton High School. Byllie greatly enjoyed reading and sewing. Her seamstress skills included making several prom dresses and twirler outfits for the girls. She was a former member of Tri-Kappa and has an extensive music box collection. She was a very quiet and soft-spoken person who enjoyed spending time with her family and grandkids but she could also relax and open up with close family.

Byllie is survived by her three daughters, Jackie Phelps and husband Vern of Hudson, Florida, Brenda Day and husband Mike, Tammy Sullivan and husband Martin, all of Tipton. She also has five grandchildren, Marci (Steve) Henderson, Andrew (Mandy) Day, Wesley (Courtney) Day, Candace (Luke) Eisman and Daniel Sullivan. Byllie’s great-grandchildren are Keighan Bess, Jessica Bess, Jadyn Nagle, Olivia & Jacob Day, Mati & Kaden Hughes, Tenley & Ryker Day, R.L. Eisman and Cody Sullivan. She also has three great-great-grandchildren, Rielynn Peterson and Easton & Avery O’Malley.

Byllie was preceded in death two brothers, Robert M. Book and Joseph E. Book.

Funeral services for Byllie will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 15 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Chaplain Brian Daehn presiding. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from Noon until the service time on Wednesday.

Memorial contributions in Byllie’s honor may be made to the Tipton County Public Library, 127 E. Madison Street, Tipton, Indiana, 46072.

  4. I will miss Aunt Byllie. I’m so sorry for your loss my cousins. I love you and would have been there if I could have been. Aunt Byllie was a kind, sweet, gentle lady.
