James Eagle Jackson, Sr. 82 of Tipton died Friday, December 24, 2021 at I.U. Hospital in Tipton.  He was born in Tompkinsville, Kentucky on September 15, 1939 to Ozzy and Ada (Pickerell) Jackson.  Jim married Connie L. Shaw on August 5, 1958, she survives.

Jim was an avid gardener, taking pride in what he would harvest from the land.  He was a hard worker.  His career varied greatly as he was often self-employed.  He had worked for different paving companies on many road projects.  He might be best remembered in his role as the manager in the cigar store downtown.  Jim was a very caring individual.  He would always help anyone in need.  His love of family was very evident and his grandchildren always took center stage in his life.  Jim was out and about in the community, enjoying time driving around and visiting with others.

Jim served his country in the Army and was a member of the American Legion in Tipton.

Survivors include his wife Connie, children Jimmy Jackson, Mashell Wright and husband Chris, Mike Jackson and wife Wendy and Angie Bess and husband Mike, all of Tipton.  Grandchildren include Jason Jackson, Danny Jackson, Levi Bess, Micah Coverdale, Ashley Safford, Chase Bess, Kristofer Jackson and Keaton Jackson.  Jim has 13 great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by two siblings, Joyce Miller and Delas Jackson.

James was preceded in death by siblings Opal Blythe, Jerliene Ogden, Alice Tubbs, Jewell Murray and Paul Jackson.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 30 at 7:00 P.M. at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Bill Salsbery presiding.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. on Thursday until service time.  The Tipton American Legion will conduct military honors at 7:00 P.M. to begin the memorial.

Memorial donations may be made to the Tipton American Legion, 129 N. Independence Street, Tipton, Indiana, 46072.
