James Sullivan

James Sullivan

 -

James “Zack” Ferguson Sullivan, 80, of Kempton, Indiana died peacefully at 11:35 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2019, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Tipton, Indiana.  James was born on August 13, 1938 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Zack and Mildred (Ferguson) Sullivan.

After a brief career in acting he took on the professional name Zack, and produced the Caravan Theater for Children to bring live, participatory theater from New York City to children in the Midwest.  When his son was born he left show business to become a carpenter, custom designing and building fine furniture in New York.  After forty years of passing through the city, sheets of birch plywood became a bit heavy, and he retired as James to the family home in Kempton, Indiana.

James is survived by his son Zack Edward Sullivan and wife Vivian of Illinois, two grandchildren, James Terrence and Katherine Anne, and his former spouse Lana (Shaw) Levine.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Zack and Mildred Sullivan of Kempton.

Funeral services for James will be at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, July 27 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Mark Morecraft presiding.  Burial will follow in Normanda Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.

He always encouraged us to pursue our dreams – just stay out of show business!

Just want to offer our sympathy at the passing of Jim. My relationship was more with his parents but I did have some acquaintance with Jim after he retired. I apologize that we won’t be there to attend the funeral service. I am sure that Mark Morecraft will be a blessing to you.

So sad to learn of this. Jim I found to be very insightful on many subjects. I always enjoyed our conversation’s and times at the library.
