Joan "Jody" Bolds

Joan “Jody” Bolds, 90, of Tipton passed away at 8:20 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at IU North Hospital in Carmel.  She was born to Frances Jackson on March 9, 1929.  Jody was a lifelong resident of Tipton.  On April 30, 1949 she married Louis David Bolds, who preceded her in death on April 8, 2005.

After graduating from Tipton High School in 1947, Jody worked as a switchboard operator for the Tipton Telephone Company for over 30 years.  After retirement, Jody pursued her antiquing hobby fulltime, operating several antique stores around Tipton.  She could be seen driving around Tipton and surrounding counties in her PT Cruiser in pursuit of the next bargain.

In addition to antiquing Jody enjoyed playing bingo, going to casinos, cooking, and spending time with her family.  She and Dave were members of the Tipton Elks Lodge #1012, Tipton Moose Lodge #1590, and West Street Christian Church.  She was also a member of a close group of friends who met monthly to dine out and enjoy each others’ company.  Jody had a kind heart and was always helping others.

Jody’s family includes one son, David (Nancy) Bolds of Tipton; two granddaughters, Sara (Erik) Pearce of Tipton and Kelly Horton of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; five great-grandchildren, Zachary (Carissa) Horton of Woodstock, Georgia, Matthew (Hannah) Horton of Fort Benning, Georgia, along with Drew, Eli, Adelyn Pearce, all of Tipton.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Dave; her mother; two sisters, Betty Head and Phyllis Jean Dunham Ballenger.

A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, July 20 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. (ret.) Othello Bach presiding.  Visitation will also be on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.  Private family burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Tipton.

Memorial contributions may be made to West Street Christian Church, Elevator Fund, 132 N. West Street, Tipton, Indiana  46072.

  1. I alway enjoyed buying, trading and selling antiques from Jody. She was always bringing jewelry she picked up at auctions and yard sales into Moser’s for me to repair for her so she could sell them. I have her mother’s nice pair of brass candle holders that I cherish. I made payments on them but at the same time she said just take them home and make the payments. She was generous and gave me things. Always enjoyed conversations with her. She will be missed! Sincere condolences, Shawn Meyer, Apache Junction, Arizona
