Martha D. Peters
Martha Peters, 86 of Tipton passed away on Monday, April 17, 2023 at The Waters of Tipton. Martha was born in Tipton on May 30, 1936 to Fred & Maxine (Spay) Gray and married Doyal W. Peters on October 20, 1961. He preceded her in death on April 9, 2008.
Martha had worked on the assembly line at Chrysler, retiring in December of 1999. She was a member of Trinity Wesleyan Church, the Tipton County Historical Society and the Homemakers club. She really enjoyed watching the Game Show Network. Martha was a big fan of Elvis and traveled to St. Louis in 1957 to watch him perform. Later in life she traveled many times with the senior group. She was an animal lover – especially cats. Anyone who knew Martha was aware that she never knew a stranger, always taking time to visit with everyone.
Martha served our country as a member of the United States Air Force. With this military background, she always made it a point to thank any veteran she saw for their service to our country.
Survivors include her three children, Robert B. Peters, Freddie L. Peters and Tricia D. Peters, all of Tipton; three siblings, Phyllis Fletcher. Annie Stevens and husband Bud and Debbie Smith, all of Tipton. Martha also has five grandchildren, Brittany Purvis, Blake Purvis, Brianna Peters, Matt Cavanah and Nate Cavanah; one great-grandson, Bryson Honstein. She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Marcy Peters.
Martha’s funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 21 at Trinity Wesleyan Church, 3021 W. St. Rd. 28, Tipton, with Pastor Johnnie Blair presiding. Burial with military honors conducted by the Tipton American Legion will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 12:00 noon until service time. Young-Nichols Funeral Home is assisting the Peters family in their time of need.
Memorial contributions in Martha’s honor may be made to the Tipton County Humane Society, P.O. Box 237, Tipton, Indiana, 46072.
