Martha F. Hawkins, 93 of Tipton died at 8:45 p.m. on Friday, June 29, 2018 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Tipton.    She was born in Kempton on April 23, 1925 to L. Guy & Martha (Hinkle) Orr.  On October 2, 1944 she married Robert E. Hawkins and he preceded her in death on March 26, 2013.  Martha had lived in the Kempton area until she and Bob moved to Tipton in 1971.

She was the bookkeeper at Kempton and Tipton County Co-Ops for over 25 years.  Martha was a member of Kempton Christian Church and later West Street Christian Church.  She was very active at Kempton Christian Church teaching Sunday school and she helped with funeral dinners at both churches.  Martha graduated from Kempton High School, class of 1943.  In earlier years she enjoyed sewing and quilting.

She is survived by three sons, Phillip Hawkins and wife Peggy, Kokomo, Dale Hawkins and wife Nancy, Kokomo and Lyle Hawkins and wife Jacky, Rochester; one granddaughter, Sherry Matlock and husband Shane; one great-grandson, Peyton Matlock.  Martha was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Freeman and Jean Unger.

Martha’s funeral will be at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, July 5 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Linda McKiernan-Allen presiding. Burial will follow in Kempton Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday also from 1:00 p.m. until time of the service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the West Street Christian Church, 132 N. West Street, Tipton, Indiana  46072.

The family would like to thank the staff at Miller’s Merry Manor for Martha’s exceptional care.
