Mary Elizabeth Scott, 88 of Tipton died at 11:39 p.m. on Monday, October 2, 2023 at IU Health – Tipton. Mary was born to Howard & Gladys (Fleetwood) Duffitt on January 21, 1935 in Tipton. On June 7, 1950 she married Martin “Pa” Scott and they had 64 years together until his passing on July 31, 2014.

Mary was a homemaker in every sense of the word – raising the children and making sure the next meal was ready when it was time to eat. She had formerly attended East Hopewell Baptist Church. Mary especially enjoyed going to the Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre with her family for a dinner and some entertainment. Watching NASCAR on TV and old Western TV shows were also favorite pastimes. After moving to The Waters of Tipton she enjoyed playing Bingo.

Mary had seven children and five sons survive her. They are Allen Scott, David Scott, Dennis Scott, Alex Scott and Michael Scott. She was preceded in death by one son, Tony Scott, and one daughter, Marcy Peters. Four siblings, Wilma Wheat, Jackie Harr, Bill Duffitt and Don Duffitt preceded her in death. Mary’s legacy includes several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mary will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 8 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Hunt presiding. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Tipton. Visitation will be from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Memorial donations in memory of Mary may be made to the Huntington’s Disease Society of America, 550 Eighth Avenue, Suite 902, New York, New York, 10018 or the charity of the donor’s choice.
