Dorothy Ann McAdams, 72 of Tipton died at 2:53 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Tipton.  Dorothy was born in Elwood on July 31, 1946 to Francis Edwin & Betty Jo (Crail) Powell.  She married Arley Joe McAdams on September 2, 1967 and he preceded her in death on August 17, 2008.

Dorothy retired from the Tipton County Courthouse after many years of public service.  She had also worked at Pioneer and S&R Consulting.  She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and the Democrat Womens Club.  She enjoyed camping and being the caretaker of her grandkids.

Survivors include two daughters, Angela Mercer and husband Troy, Greentown and Amy McAdams Gonzales and husband Matt, Indianapolis; six siblings, Steven Powell and wife Karen, William Powell and wife Carol, David Powell, Kevin Powell, Jeffrey Powell and Beth Rippy, all of Tipton; one sister-in-law, Susan Powell, Tipton; five grandchildren, Wesley Hill, Noah Hill, Graham Hill, Oscar Gonzales and Isidore Gonzales, and several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by one brother, Daniel Powell.

Her funeral mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 29 at the St. Joseph Retreat & Conference Center in Tipton.  Rev. David Huemmer will preside.  Burial will follow at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery.  Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with a Rosary being recited at 2:00.

Memorial donations may be made to Tipton County Relay for Life American Cancer Society, 5635 West 96th Street, Suite 100, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46278.

    So sorry to hear about Dorothy. Just visited with her a few days ago. We had a lot of memories together. Our husbands were in National Guard together and both passed at about the same time. Sweet rest Dorothy.

  3. I am so sorry to hear of Aunt Dorothy’s passing. She was so good to my Mother before she passed last fall. Her weekly phone calls and kindness was such a comfort to my Mom. She was always kind to me my entire life and I will always love her for that. This is a sad time for all the lives she touched.

  4. Robby and myself are so sorry for the loss of our beloved Dorthy, we didn’t know her fir very long but she was such a sweet sole. Robby is so upset of her passing she was his friend from the first day we moved into the apartments. Our prayers go out to your family

    I am so sorry for the loss of Dorothy. She was truly one of a kind. She was always so nice and kind to everyone she met. I was glad that I was able to see and speak with her before the Lord called her home. I know that she is in a much better place now and you all will see her again.     Sorry to hear of the passing of Dorothy. The family are in my thoughts and prayers. I have know Dorothy for many years. She and Joe were both very good friends in your younger years. I have many wonderful memories.
