Angela Mary (Whisman) Simons

Angela Mary (Whisman) Simons

 -

Sadly, Angela Mary Simons (nee Whisman) has lost her courageous battle with brain cancer on Saturday, June 3, 2023, in Terre Haute, Indiana.  Angela was born to Hiram Lee & Norma Mary Whisman (nee Gilland) on May 20, 1952, in Noblesville, Indiana. Angela was the only girl in the family, having five brothers—Ronnie, Donnie, Tim, Kenny, and Steve. She was a lifelong Catholic and spoke to God in prayer during quiet moments. Angela was sure to nudge her kids to lean on God, particularly during difficult times. She was married to Sam J Simons, the love of her life & her best friend, on November 23, 1997.

She was predeceased by her loving parents, Hiram Lee Whisman & Norma Mary Whisman; her brothers Ronnie Whisman (2004) & Donnie Whisman (2013); and her nephew Ronald Lee (2019). She is survived by her loving husand, Sam; her children, Carrie Ann Mize (Brett); Jonathan Simons (Emily); Christopher Simons (Numia); Katherine Simons Parvin (Larry); and Julie Coryea (LeRoy); and her granddaughters—Addison, with whom she shared a very special bond, Adrienne, Lillian, Calliope, and Peregrine. She is also survived by Kenneth Whisman (Liz); Tim Whisman (Paula); and Steve Whisman (Carol), as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Angela attended Tipton High School and worked as an administrative assistant for many years before transitioning to a career in interior design. Over the years Angela had many adventures, moving through various Indiana towns, including Atlanta, Tipton, Noblesville, and beyond; in more recent years, she lived in Scituate, Massachusetts, and then Sherman, Connecticut. In retirement, she & Sam bought a beautiful property in Madison, Indiana, which is where they have resided since autumn of 2021.

She had a great love of traveling with Sam, spending time with their basset hounds, antiquing, finding a good bargain at TJ Maxx, and listening to music—LOUD music. Family members remember her always ready to share in a laugh or to make silly sounds and nicknames at them. Each year, Angela was excited and eager to travel with Sam to the Atlanta Earth Festival, which always fell around the same time as Carrie’s birthday; she always looked forward to these events, as she always missed her family when living far away. Angela was a diva and loved looking her best, from her fun fashion finds to the newest organic makeup; she was sure to always look top-notch. While this is true, she also loved to camp, run around outside barefoot, and swim in pools and lakes. She made great efforts to organize neat trips and to get the most out of life. Angela will be greatly missed.

Angela’s Catholic Funeral Mass will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 10 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church (340 Mill St, Tipton, IN 46072) with Father Goth presiding.  Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery.  Visitation will also be on Saturday, June 10 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at Young-Nichols Funeral Home (216 W Jefferson St, Tipton, IN 46072).

Memorial donations may be made to St. John’s Catholic Church, 340 Mill Street, Tipton, Indiana, 46072.

  1. I’m so sorry to hear about Angela. I know that she was very sick. I had met Angela on only two occasions, but she acted as though we were old friends. I last saw her at the gathering in New Orleans. I know that she didn’t feel that well, but she was laughing and having lots of fun. It’s great that she was able to go!

  2. I’m so very sorry. I didn’t know Angie had been sick. We use to chat on Facebook but that was some time ago. Angie was such a sweet lady and so talented. In fact she wallpapered my bedroom 28 years ago and I still love it. She was so happy and it showed in her work. Angie I will always remember you fondly. Sleep well until we meet again.
